The Republic of the Maldives is an island nation covering an area of over 90,000 square kilometres in the Indian Ocean. There are two distinct seasons, which are based on the monsoons. The North East Monsoon ‘lruvai’ is between December to April and is marked by calm seas, low humidity and endless sunshine. The South West Monsoon ‘Hulhangu’ lasts between May to October with rougher seas, higher humidity and heavy rainfall.

Near the harbour, there is a popular fish market that offers the day's catch and a produce market that is stocked with local fruit. The Maldives is a premier scuba diving destination with Baa Atoll being one of the largest groups of coral reefs in the Indian Ocean and known for its Manta Rays and Whale Sharks amongst others. It is a designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve making it one of the best places to dive in the Maldives. Snorkelling is another great option as the reefs are so pristine that you do not have to go very deep to see a lot, including Sea Turtles. The Maldives is also a world-class destination for surfing and those who are adrenaline junkies, surfing is definitely one of the best things to do in Maldives.
