Bergen
Bergen is surrounded by mountains and is the capital of the UNESCO protected fjords including Sognefjord; the country’s longest and deepest. The Old Wharf area of Bryggen features colourful wooden houses and was once the centre of the Hanseatic League's trading empire. There are many Historical World Heritage sites, trendy restaurants, an advanced music scene and also many meandering cobblestone streets.
The city is surrounded by seven mountains, the most accessible are Mount Fløyen and Mount Ulriken. You can take the Fløibanen funicular right from the city centre, just a three minute walk from the Fish Market. The funicular itself takes six minutes to reach the top of the mountain and runs every day. The views over Bergen from the top are absolutely breathtaking.
Bergen Fish Market is an important trading place that goes back centuries. Today you will not only find fish and seafood but also fruit and vegetables when in season.
The Edvard Grieg Museum Troldhaugen is located just outside of the city centre. The music of Edvard Grieg is frequently used in films, documentaries, video games or of course performed by your local philharmonic orchestra.
