It’s time to feel the lovely sea breeze from the Atlantic! Today, you begin cycling toward the Atlantic, guided by fresh sea air and everchanging Coastal scenery. The ride starts in Porto, crossing the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge, where wide views over the Douro River provide a memorable introduction to the day. Leaving the City behind, the route follows calm roads and dedicated cycling paths close to the ocean, creating a relaxed and enjoyable first riding experience. Along the Coastline, you pass a series of inviting beaches including Valadares, Francelos and Miramar Beach, all connected by quiet seaside paths. Although Atlantic Waters are often refreshing, these beaches are ideal for short stops, seaside walks or moments spent enjoying the Coastal light and open views. Miramar is particularly worth a pause to visit the striking Capela do Senhor da Pedra, a small Chapel dramatically set atop a solitary rock by the shore. Continuing south, the route maintains its Coastal character, following peaceful paths that lead toward Furadouro, where the influence of the Atlantic is felt both along the Coast and at the table. Time here invites a slower pace, with opportunities to unwind and savour the simple, fresh flavours shaped by the nearby sea. Meals: Breakfast
Today’s ride leads away from the open Atlantic and into the quieter, more intricate landscapes of the Ria de Aveiro, revealing one of Portugal’s most distinctive natural environments. Departing from Furadouro, the route gradually leaves the Coastal setting behind and enters the marshlands of the Ria through some of its least explored areas. Here, narrow paths wind between water channels, reed beds and open flats, creating a sense of calm and seclusion. This lagoon has long played a central role in shaping the identity of the region, sustaining Local Communities while preserving traditions closely tied to fishing and life on the water. Formed in the 15th Century as the shoreline receded, leaving behind vast Sandbanks covering thousands of hectares, the Ria evolved into a complex network of canals and small Islands. Over time, this unique setting earned Aveiro its well known nickname, the Portuguese Venice. Its waters support a wide variety of life, from Shellfish to Storks, Herons and Birds of Prey, as well as mammals such as Otters, contributing to its designation as a protected area. As you cycle through this landscape, the route passes close to small Fishing Villages where daily life continues to follow the rhythms of the Lagoon. Approaching the centre of Aveiro, canals guide you into the heart of the City, where the brightly painted Moliceiro boats come into view, one of the most recognisable symbols of the Ria. Time in Aveiro allows for an easy exploration of the canals, a pause at a waterside café or the opportunity to enjoy local flavours shaped by the lagoon and the nearby sea. Meals: Breakfast
Discover incredible and lovely views over the Atlantic. Today’s ride offers everchanging views as waterways, traditional Villages and the Atlantic gradually shape the landscape. Leaving Aveiro, the route follows quiet paths through an area of shallow ponds and salt pans, where salt is still harvested using traditional methods passed down through generations. This working landscape reflects a way of life closely connected to the lagoon and its natural rhythms. Continuing onward, the route reaches a small dock area offering views over the Harbour and a glimpse of traditional Cod fishing boats, a reminder of Portugal’s long Maritime history. Crossing the main Bridge, you arrive in Praia da Barra, a Coastal Village known for its open horizons and strong Atlantic presence. As the ride continues South, you pass through Costa Nova, famous for its distinctive striped houses painted in vertical bands of colour, once used by fishing families to store equipment and now one of the most recognisable images of the region. Beyond Costa Nova, the scenery shifts once again, following the edge of the Ria de Aveiro, where water, reeds and sky blend into a calm and expansive setting. Gradually, the lagoon gives way to small agricultural plots and vegetable gardens, signaling the approach to Praia da Mira. Your accommodation awaits near the shore, where you can unwind to the sound of the waves or explore the charming Village filled with cosy Seafood restaurants and local artisans. Meals: Breakfast
