As the Capital City of Perak, Ipoh is best known for its charming colonial architecture flanked by dramatic limestone cliffs. In the city's streets, there's also a beauty to be found in the form of fascinating street art installations and murals. See a different side of the city and form a new perspective as stops at iconic historical sites blend with stunning and vibrant street art. Begin at the Birch Memorial Clock Tower, built in 1909 by James WW Birch who was Perak's first British Resident, before heading over to marvel at the impressive colonial era building of Ipoh City Hall. In December 2008, a hidden tunnel was found underneath City Hall, which was formerly used to transfer prisoners from the High Court when the building used as a police station. Afterwards, move on to spot the city's street art hidden in plain sight. The art work viewed includes several murals created by renowned artist Ernest Zacharevic, the same artist who created other iconic works in Georgetown, Penang. Some of the murals he painted include images of hummingbirds, bags of coffee and the tin mining industry that forms the history of this town. We then continue our journey to an abandoned mansion that is hidden inside a Palm Oil Plantation. It is supposed to be the most luxury mansion from the Colonial time. The house was abandoned due to death of its Scottish owner. Here you can get to know some supernatural incidents that have terrified the local people.
