During each stop, passengers can experience various activities, be it wine tasting, a cellar tour, lunch or simply a stroll through the vineyards. In the afternoon visit the Spice Route with a variety of local tasting experience, Wine / Craft Beer / Chocolate and Artisan Cold Meats. Five centuries ago the ancient mariners braved uncharted seas to round the Cape in search of exotic spices. Their nerve and dash inspired Charles Back to found the Spice Route Winery in 1997. Charles had bought the farm Klein Amoskuil and this Malmesbury based farm is now home to Spice Route's Swartland terroir styled wines. The Spice Route Winery has found its signature wine style in the warm rolling hills along the Cape West Coast. Matching traditional practices in the vineyards with modern, minimalist approaches in the cellar, they produce exceptionally ripe and deep flavoured wines. The deep red soils sustain unirrigated bush vine through the long warm summers. These harsh conditions are tempered by cool Atlantic breezes rolling in overnight. In its few years since inception had a stratospheric climb into the top echelons of the South African wine industry. Return to the hotel for your overnight stay. Meals: Breakfast
After breakfast, meet your guide and transfer to CPT International Airport for your regional flight to Walvis Bay (flight cost not included). Upon arrival, there will be a Meet & Greet at Walvis Bay Airport. Take a drive through the desert to visit the Moon Landscape and the ancient Welwitschia Plants. The Moon Landscape is located near the coastal town of Swakopmund and can be accessed via a picturesque drive through the Namib-Naukluft Park. An eerie mysterious landscape has been constructed through years of erosion of soft layers of earth that were deposited in this area over 450 million years ago. Found in the Namib Desert, Welwitschia is a remarkable plant known for its longevity with some living for over a thousand years. Visitors can marvel at these unique plants in their natural habitat, taking guided tours to learn about their adaptation to extreme desert conditions. Continue to the quaint coastal town of Swakopmund and check-in at the hotel. Dinner tonight is at a restaurant in Swakopmund. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
After breakfast at the hotel, drive to nearby Walvis Bay (30 kms) to join a boat cruise to the Pelican Pint Peninsula Seal Colonies. Join a boat cruise off the bay of Walvis Bay, all along to the Seal colonies of Pelican Point Peninsula. Enjoy fresh Walvis Bay Oysters, sparkling wine, a light lunch and drinks onboard while watching the playful Seals, aquatic birds and Dolphins. With a bit of luck also Whales and other sea dwellers. The Namibia Dolphin & Seal Catamaran Cruise is a photographers dream as well as a perfect time to relax. When there is no wind the vessel uses the engines, which make virtually no noise, otherwise, the wind guides the vessel silently through the 100 km2 lagoon area, which is protected by a natural sandbank called Pelican Point, home to a large colony of Cape Fur Seals. The calm waters of the lagoon together with the large stable sailing catamaran offers a perfect platform to view these marine wonders. Back on land, we will have a photo stop at the lagoon to view some aquatic birds before driving through the Namib Desert to the Sossusvlei region. Cross the Kuiseb Canyons, Kuiseb Pass and the Tropic of Capricorn (5 Hr drive). Mysterious and remote, the Kuiseb Canyon was carved aeons ago by the Kuiseb River, which runs mainly underground. This deep fissure is flanked by steep folds of rock on one side and the copper coloured sand dunes of the Namib Desert on the other and shelters several wildlife species that are acclimatised to the region’s harsh environment including Hyena, Buck and even Leopard. The Kuiseb Pass takes you through the Kuiseb Canyon, the watercourse of which only flows occasionally but often enough to halt the advance of the red sands of the Namib. The most visited point of the Tropic of Capricorn is located in the Namibia Desert between the little dwelling of Solitaire and the Kuiseb Canyons. This is the typical travel route between Sossusvlei and the coastal towns of Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. The Tropic of Capricorn has the approximate latitude of 23.5 degrees South. This is one of the 5 major circles of latitude and the southernmost point of latitude from where the sun can be seen directly overhead. This point of latitude runs through various other countries such as Brazil, Mozambique and Australia. Dinner is at the lodge in Sossusvlei. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
After breakfast, we depart early this morning to the dune of the Sossusvlei area visiting the Dead Vlei, Sossusvlei and Dune 45. This ancient clay pan was once an oasis, studded with acacias and fed by a river that suddenly changed course, leaving the earth to dry up along with the trees it previously supported. So dry were the climatic conditions that the trees never decomposed. Instead they were entirely leached of moisture so that today, 900 years later, they remain as desiccated, blackened sentinels dotting the pan’s cracked surface. Surrounded by the red-pink dunes of the Namibia Desert, they create a surreal spectacle that is a photographer's dream. It is a 1.1 km hike on foot to reach the Dead Vlei. The Dead Vlei is flanked by the Big Daddy dune, known to be the highest sand dune on earth. Located in the scenic Namib-Naukluft National Park, Sossusvlei is where you will find the iconic red sand dunes of the Namib. The clear blue skies contrast with the giant red dunes to make this one of the most scenic natural wonders of Africa and a photographer's heaven. This awe inspiring destination is possibly Namibia's premier attraction with its unique dunes rising to almost 400 metres making them some of the highest in the world. These iconic dunes come alive in morning and evening light and draw photography enthusiasts from around the globe. Sossusvlei is home to a variety of desert wildlife including Oryx, Springbok, Ostrich and a variety of reptiles. Visitors can climb 'Big Daddy', one of Sossusvlei’s tallest dunes, explore Deadvlei, which is a white, salt, claypan dotted with ancient trees, or for the more extravagant, scenic flights and hot air ballooning are on offer, followed by a once in a lifetime Champagne breakfast amidst these majestic dunes. Named for its location 45 kilometres past the town of Sesriem, Dune 45 is renowned for its elegant shape, which, along with its position close to the road, have earned it the distinction of ‘most photographed dune in the world’. If you’re not keen for the strenuous hike to the top of Big Daddy, Dune 45 is a more forgiving alternative, standing at only 80 metres and featuring a much gentler gradient. Enjoy lunch at a nearby lodge before visiting Sestriem Canyon before returning to the lodge in Sossusvlei. Sesriem Canyon is located 5 kms from the entrance gate to the dunes of Sossusvlei. It is a deep chasm carved through the rocks by water, is a striking natural feature of the area that is best explored on foot. Stony walls rise up sharply on both sides of the canyon, while birds roost in its crags and lizards dart along the ledges. The canyon’s name was coined when early settlers used it as a water source, using six lengths of leather (‘ses riem – six thongs) tied together to lower buckets into the water at the base of canyon. Sesriem Canyon is best viewed at midday when the sun affords most light for photography in the narrow gorges, ideally after visiting the dunes and on the way out of the park. This afternoon, there is an optional excursion through the beautiful desert landscapes. Enjoy dinner at the lodge. Optional Excursion: • Sunrise and sundowner guided quad-bike excursion (we regret that children younger than 12 cannot participate). View a magnificent sunrise or sunset over the Tsaris Mountains surrounded by the majestic dunes. Please Note: the dead trees should not be touched so they will be there for many more people to see and photograph. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
